Effective Date: May 1, 2020 (Mastercard transactions submitted for clearing and settlement on April 30, 2020 will also be subject to the new interchange rates). *Please note*: the implementation date has been delayed to August 1, 2020. For details, refer to the “Interchange 2020: Visa and Mastercard Updates Delayed” section above.
Description: Mastercard will make a significant change to their domestic interchange structure to focus on elements of security and reflect the risk of the transaction. As part of this change, Mastercard will replace the majority of their existing domestic interchange programs with new programs that reflect the degree of risk associated with the type of transaction.
Impact: This update will impact merchants who process domestic Mastercard credit card transactions. Mastercard Debit transactions will remain unchanged.
