When you process a transaction on your POS equipment, your terminal communicates with Moneris several times. If there is any interruption to the connection during the final stages of communication, the transaction will not register properly. This is known as a dropped transaction.
Dropped transactions aren’t unusual and Moneris is often able to correct the issue automatically without having to involve the merchant. However, there are times when we’re unable to fix the issue on our own. We want to help reduce the time you spend doing administrative work and avoid delays in the receipt of funds for that transaction. Let’s look at some ways to try and prevent a dropped transaction.
How to stop the drop
Dropped transactions tend to happen more frequently when the terminal communicates over a regular telephone connection (Dial-up) versus an Internet connection (IP). If your terminal is connected to a regular phone line, consider switching it to an IP connection. All Moneris POS devices are able to connect to the Internet.
Itching to switch to IP?
Great! Not only will it help reduce the number of dropped transactions, it also helps speed up transaction processing times – which can help reduce line-ups at peak times.
Refer to our IP Readiness Checklist to help figure out what you’ll need to make the switch. Once you’re ready to make the switch, give us a call!
Not sure what type of connection you’re using? Or, already using an IP connection and still experiencing frequent dropped transactions? Give us a call at 1-844-204-8626 so we can help. We’re here 24/7.
