Moneris Go terminal: Stand-alone mode

The Moneris Go Restaurant app can run on the Moneris Go terminal when the terminal is in standalone mode.  Moneris Go Restaurant uses the Moneris Go terminal to process payments.

What is stand-alone mode vs cloud mode?

Your Moneris Go terminal can operate in standalone mode or cloud mode depending on the type of service you offer.  Review the table below to understand the difference between these two modes.

Where do I start  payments? Which app and which device?

Go Restaurant app on the terminal.

You tap Checkout in the terminal app. Payments can only be processed on the terminal, not on the tablet.

Go Restaurant app on the tablet.

You tap Checkout in the tablet app and the tablet sends the payment request to the terminal.

Type of integration The Go Restaurant app on the terminal communicates with the Go Payment app on the terminal.  Payments can only be processed on the terminal, not on the tablet.  The tablet and the terminal are not integrated. The tablet app is integrated with the terminal through the Moneris cloud.

Setting up and using your terminal in stand-alone mode

Here are some basic procedures you can follow on the Moneris Go terminal.  For complete information about how to set up and use the Go terminal, refer to  moneris.com/en/support , select your terminal, then click on the online user manual.  Set up the terminal hardware first (charging the battery, installing the paper roll, powering on) then return to this topic.

Start the Moneris Go app and sign in

This procedure is about starting the Moneris Go payment app, not the Moneris Go Restaurant app.  If needed, you can use the Moneris Go payment app to view transactions, perform refunds and void, and sync with the Moneris server.  Some of these tasks, like viewing transactions and performing refunds, can also be done directly in the Go Restaurant app.

  1. If needed, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Android navigation bar.

  1. To go to the Android home screen, tap the circle icon in the navigation bar.
  2. Tap the Moneris Go icon.
  3. On the sign in screen, enter the user name and password provided by your manager, or the user name and password you created when you set up your Moneris Go terminal.

Note: These may not be the same your user name and password for the Moneris Go Restaurant app.

View payment transactions

This procedure is about viewing payment transactions in the Moneris Go payment app.  You can also view payment transactions directly in the Go Restaurant app.

  1. To get to the Main menu, tap the Main menu icon .
  2. On the Main menu, tap Reports.
  3. On the Reports screen, tap the transaction you want to view.

If the payment transaction was interrupted for any reason, it may not appear on the list.

  1. On the Transaction details screen, look for "Transaction status" to determine if the transaction was approved.

If the payment transaction does not appear or was not approved, re-try the payment using the Go Restaurant app.

Process a void or refund

This procedure is about processing a void or a refund in the Moneris Go payment app.  You can also process refunds directly in the Go Restaurant app.

  1. At the bottom of the transaction details screen, tap Void or Refund.
  2. Follow the prompts on screen.

Note: When processing refunds or voids for debit and UnionPay transactions, you will need the customer’s card.

 

Restarting the app on the terminal

Note:  This topic is about restarting the Go Restaurant app on the Moneris Go terminal.  For an iPad or Android tablet, follow the manufacturer's instructions for stopping and restarting a frozen application.

If the app on the terminal is unresponsive or frozen, you can force it to close and then restart it.

  1. If needed, swipe up from the bottom of the screen to reveal the Android navigation bar.

  1. Tap the square icon in the Android navigation bar to display all open apps.
  2. Tap the x in the title bar of the Go Restaurant app close it. 
  3. To go to the Android home screen, tap the circle icon in the Android navigation bar.
  4. Tap the icon for the Go Restaurant app to restart it.
  5. Sign in as usual.

If the app froze during a payment transaction, you can open the Moneris Go payment app and view transaction reports to determine if the transaction was completed successfully.

Sync your terminal with Moneris

To sync your Moneris Go terminal settings with Moneris, follow these steps. 

Note: Updates to the terminal software will happen automatically, but there may be times when Moneris staff will ask you to sync your terminal.

  1. Start the Moneris Go app on your terminal and sign in.
  2. Tap the Main menu icon
  3. On the Main menu, tap Settings.
  4. On the Settings menu, tap Sync with Moneris.
