Set up and use a barcode scanner

A scanner allows you to efficiently capture barcode information while eliminating the potential errors associated with manual entry.  Go Retail supports the use of a barcode scanner to capture UPC and SKU codes and to add products to the cart when a customer is ready to check out.

Capture SKU and UPC codes

When adding a product to your store or editing an existing product, or finding a product to add to the cart, use your scanner to capture the SKU and UPC codes.  Fields that can be populated using a scanner are indicated by a barcode icon as shown below in red outline:

Follow these steps to capture barcode information using a scanner:

  1. Place your cursor in the field where you want the barcode data to appear.  For example, if you are about to scan the SKU barcode from a product, first place your cursor in the SKU field.
  2. Scan the appropriate barcode using your scanner.   The barcode data will appear in the field.
  3. Place your cursor in the next field where you want barcode data to appear.  For example, if you want to capture the UPC next, place your cursor in the UPC field and scan the UPC barcode from a product.

Add a product to the cart using your scanner

When customers in your store are ready to check out, you can save time by scanning the products they wish to purchase.  The barcode icon in the order details panel indicates the cart is ready to receive scanned items for purchase. Simply scan the UPC barcode from each product to add it to the cart.  Make sure your mouse in not in the search bar.
