Visa Account Updater and MasterCard Automatic Billing Updater are mechanisms for updating cardholder account information electronically among participating card issuers,* payment processors, and merchants who accept account-on-file transactions. It helps to ensure a smooth automatic billing cycle by minimizing payment disruptions due to account changes.

How does it work?

• Participating card issuers submit cardholder account changes, such as card numbers and expiry dates, to the VAU and ABU databases.
• Registered merchants send a request to Moneris to verify their customers’ account information for any changes or updates in one of two ways:
  • Automatically: Moneris will submit these account queries to the VAU and ABU databases on a periodic basis.
  • Manually: Merchants send a request to Moneris to verify their customers’ account information for any changes or updates and Moneris submits these inquiries to the databases.
• Visa and MasterCard match account inquiries to card issuer submissions and notify Moneris of any updates.
• Moneris returns updated cardholder account information to you – helping you increase your transaction authorization rate.
